Mannequins are the main subject mater of my work. No identity, simply the essence of a human is conveyed. This gives the work a feel of awkwardness and reality. These figures are artificial, yet I paint them to make them seem as if they are alive. The backgrounds are fabricated like a play- something that is clearly staged for dramatic effect like a play. Dim, moody light is used in my works to create drama. This dramatic impact is the essence I want to convey. The words action and movement are two words that run through my head when creating these works. I like my subjects to have a sense of interaction, rather than posing for the viewer. The goal for each of the works is that the viewer gets the feel of intruding on a scene, rather than the work giving a feel of comfort and a feel of being safe. The viewers eyes wonder throughout the works impelling them to form some type of connection with the work. My art is dark and odd. In addition to mannequins, I use human figures and natural objects such as skulls. I want the human figures to take on similar characteristics as the mannequins. Much like people, mannequins can be posed, and staged like a model. If portrayed in the correct matter you could say, Is it real? Within my works I try to convey the idea of, What is real. I like to play around with the idea of giving the lifeless life. Making the artificial feel as if you could interact with it, much like if you where to do so with another person. My ideas are weird, not normal. Giving artificial life the ability to seem real. This oddness grabs the attention of the viewer. Within the works I try to convey a sense of humor. Whether the humor is a provocative shadow in the work,a humorous story behind the work itself, or a subliminal idea painted in the work, I try to incorporate some type of comedy in each work. The scenes are staged and the scenes impel me to paint. There is always a story to be told, so is the same with my works. Every work has a story behind it. What I enjoy most is letting the viewer make up there own story. Story telling is a big part of my life, and in result it is a part of my paintings. Every item or subject that are in my paintings impels me to paint them and an understanding and connection is established. Much like a dream my works question the the idea of what is real? Is this really occurring or am I imaging it? The very idea of is this real or is this fantasy is a concept the I play with and bend to my own way to create this unique works of art. I paint simply because I have a vision of the world that I want to be known, what that is exactly is a mystery.
